Premises prescribed under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 must be registered with Council and must comply with the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009. Premises that are prescribed under the Act include:
- Hair dressers
- Tattooists
- Colonic irrigation
- Beauty therapy
- Skin piercing
Unsafe or unhygienic practices within health and wellbeing businesses can affect the health of clients, the health of the operator and can aid in the spread of infectious disease.
More seriously, where procedures including the penetration of the skin are not managed correctly, they can be the means of transmitting organisms that cause diseases such like AIDS and Hepatitis B.
Inspections are undertaken by Council's Public and Environmental Health officers to ensure that premises comply with the requirements under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008.
