The Castlemaine Historic Shop Front Initiative aims to improve restoration and design outcomes in central Castlemaine, by providing traders and owners with advice, architectural drawings and historic photos of their shop fronts. Miners' Cottages of the Goldfields of Mount Alexander
This guide is about the miners' cottages of the early gold seekers who rushed to the Mount Alexander alluvial goldfields. The guide explains the significance of the miners' cottages, documents the original fabric and traces the evolution of the cottages from temporary shelter into more permanent buildings. The guide is available to purchase for $5 from the Civic Centre in Castlemaine or can be downloaded here.
Castlemaine Market Building thermal comfort project
Council is undertaking a three stage project to improve the thermal performance of the building, with the provision of new internal door lobbies, draft abatement works and a heating and cooling system. Stage 1, the provision of new internal glass lobbies and crash bar doors is now complete. Works are also underway to repair the 22 wooden doors on the eastern and western facades of the building, including repainting and draft abatement.
