Advisory Committees

Council has established a number of advisory committees to guide and support decision making to plan services across specific areas of Council in line with the terms of reference.

Committee membership

Each committee has a Councillor representative and a key Council contact officer. Key contacts are detailed in the committee list and can be contacted on 5471 1700.

Audit and Risk Advisory Committee

The Audit and Risk Advisory Committee is appointed by Council in accordance with Section 139 of the Local Government Act 1989.

The main objectives of the Committee are to assist Council in discharging its oversight responsibilities for financial reporting and external audit processes, Council’s governance framework, effectiveness of internal control, risk management systems, risk management and internal audit function.

Members: Mr Ken Belfrage, Ms Nicole Cox, Mr Glenn Sutherland, Ms Marina Bland plus the Mayor and one Councillor..

Heritage Advisory Committee

The objectives and functions of the Heritage Advisory Committee are grouped according to four themes, namely knowing, protecting, supporting, and promoting heritage values and initiatives in the Shire.

The committee also provides a forum for Councillors to discuss and receive advice regarding local issues, and to provide input on content and topics for community forums on heritage matters as required.

Mount Alexander – A Healthy Shire: Community Advisory Committee

Are you interested in the health and wellbeing of the Mount Alexander Shire community?

Council is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from members of the community and partner organisations with diverse backgrounds, interests and networks to join the Mount Alexander – A Healthy Shire: Community Advisory Committee.

The newly formed committee will provide advice to Council on the development, review and implementation of the 2017-2021 Mount Alexander Shire Health and Wellbeing Plan.

The committee will meet quarterly for the first twelve months, then bi-annually during the four-year term. Members will also participate in one of three working groups that meet bi-annually.

A comprehensive induction will be provided.

Youth Advisory Group

The Youth Advisory Group assists Council to better engage with young people when conducting community consultations.

In 2012, the Youth Advisory Group developed the Mount Alexander Youth Engagement Charter. The Charter outlines key principles to consider when engaging with young people within decision making processes.
