Preparing your application

To apply for an advertised position, we request a 'cover letter' (no more than 2 pages) outlining your interest and why you are the best candidate for the role.

Please ensure you read through the relevant Position Description prior to preparing your application.

The below points are a guide to the type of information to be provided:

1. How your experience, knowledge and personal qualities would enable you to perform the duties and meet the technical and behavioural capabilities of the role,
2. any specific examples or achievements that demonstrate your ability to perform the role,
3. relevant qualifications held,
4. how you meet any applicable eligibility requirements.


High level management roles may be an exception, where addressing specific Key Selection Criteria may be required. Please refer to individual position advertisements.

All documents must be in MSWord or PDF format.

Your application should include:

• Cover letter (refer 'Preparing your application' above)

• Resume/CV, including contact details of at least two current referees

• If requested - separate document addressing the Key Selection Criteria (found within the position description)

Applications must be received by the specified closing time and date on the position advertisement. Late applications may not be accepted.

After you have applied:

• All applications will be assessed after the closing date
• Short listed applicants will be contacted by telephone for interviews
• Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email

If you are the successful candidate:

• All positions are subject to a minimum employment period
• Any employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory passing of a National Police Check
• Some positions may require satisfactory completion of a medical or Working With Children Check
• Evidence of qualifications and eligibility to work in Australia will need to be provided as applicable
• Evidence of full COVID-19 vaccination may be a condition of employment

Please note the canvassing of Councillors for employment will immediately disqualify prospective applicants for positions with Mount Alexander Shire Council. This includes requests for Councillors to provide references or to act as referees.
