Tuesday 12 September 2017

Local business operators and interested community members are invited to a forum to better understand the opportunities that will come from the new mountain bike park at Harcourt.

Mount Alexander Shire Council is hosting the forum, which will feature guest speakers discussing the social and economic benefits that the park will bring to Harcourt and the region.

“Within five years the park is estimated to inject $9.8 million into the local economy and create 58 jobs,” said David Leathem, Manager Economy and Culture, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“This is an incredible opportunity and Council wants to make sure that the community and local businesses are ready,” said Mr Leathem.

“We have some excellent guest speakers organised for the evening, with the likes of Emma Ashton, who will speak about starting up businesses in both the accommodation and restaurant sectors at Forrest in the Otway Ranges – an area surrounded by mountain bike trails,” he said.

Attendees can also hear about the mountain bike park construction, timelines, the exciting Harcourt Miniature Railway project and more.

Guest speakers include:

Simon French – Managing Director, DirtArt Pty Ltd (Harcourt mountain park construction firm)
Richard Wadsworth – Statewide Recreation and Tourism Coordinator, Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning
Emma Ashton – Proprietor of Forrest Guesthouse and Bespoke Harvest Restaurant in Forrest
Adam Balzan – Branch Manager, Maldon & District Community Bank®
Andrew Mierisch – Operator, Harcourt Miniature Railway.

“If you have a business idea, or are keen to learn more about how you can make the most of this opportunity, then attending this forum will be a worthwhile investment,” said Mr Leathem.

An open question and answer session will allow participants to hear more details and discuss future opportunities.
