RCC program officially launched
The RCC program officially launched on Wednesday 14 February with an event called Love Letters to the Heart of Victoria in Bendigo's Rosalind Park. The event included the placement of love letters from the community around a new, large-scale sculpture called Heart. The following text is taken from Mayor Bronwen Machin’s love letter.
Love letter to the heart of Central Victoria
Dear Central Victoria,
Our country and our people - intertwined, meandering through each other, testing and loving each other.
Together you are my anchor that grounds me through our many storms.
Together you are the storm that scatters old ideas and brings a rainbow of new ones.
We need those ideas if we are to learn to be custodians of our land and culture for the thousands of years to come. We can’t do it in the same way that the Dja Dja Wurrung have done. We are too many and may strain our land and climate beyond endurance. Yet we can learn from their wisdom offered to us in a gracious spirit of reconciliation.
Our new ideas and culture will come if we let our imaginations and creativity soar. If we spark off each other, if we allow the wisdom of many cultures and different ways of thinking challenge and change us, if we really hear each other and deeply observe our land.
We have all those elements here. Let the storm begin.
