Councillors elected Cr Bronwen Machin as Mayor of Mount Alexander Shire Council for the next two terms at the Ordinary Council meeting last night.

Cr Machin will complete the remaining month of this Mayoral term then continue on as Mayor for another 12 months.

“It is an honour to be elected to serve as mayor of the Mount Alexander Shire,” said Cr Machin.

“In the five years that I have been a councillor I have seen the strength of our community, our Council and council organisation,” she said.

“Building on this strength is how we will continue to make our shire a great place to live and work and grow for everyone in the community.

“We have a big job in delivering on the 2017-2021 Council Plan and continuing our work on projects such as the Wesley Hill sports hub as well as delivering everyday service provision for the young, old and in-between.

“I will continue talking to many people in the community, as I do now, about how we can continue to work together to deliver council services in the most effective and efficient manner.”

Mayor Machin also thanked former Mayor Sharon Telford for her service as Mayor and to the community.

“Sharon led our Council up till recently and did so with grace and humour. Her commitment and service to Mount Alexander Shire Council will be greatly missed.

“I know she will be greatly missed by Councillors as well as by the community in her ward.

“I would also like to acknowledge the work of Cr Christine Henderson, who selflessly stepped in as our spokesperson while we were between Mayors and thank her for doing so.”
