Notice of Approval of Amendment, Amendment C73

The Minister for Planning has approved Amendment C73 to the Mount Alexander Planning Scheme. The Amendment comes into operation on the date this notice is published in the Government Gazette.

The Amendment rezones land at 98 Forest Street, Castlemaine, from Public Use Zone 1 (Service and Utility) to Commercial 1 Zone, rezones land at 2 and 2A Urquhart Street and 2 Duke Street, Castlemaine, from General Residential Zone to Commercial 1 Zone, applies the Design and Development Overlay, Schedule 15 (Castlemaine Township Gateway) to all of the affected land, applies the Environmental Audit Overlay to 2 and 2A Urquhart Street, and 2 Duke Street, Castlemaine, and amends Figure 8 in Clause 21.12-2 to incorporate all of the affected land in the Castlemaine Commercial Centre.

The Minister has granted the following permit(s) under Division Five Part Four of the Act:
Permit Number: PA072/2013.
Description of land: 98 Forest Street, 2 and 2A Urquhart Street and 2 Duke Street, Castlemaine.

A copy of the Amendment can be inspected, free of charge, at the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning website at www.planning.vic.gov.au/public-inspection and free of charge, during office hours, at the offices of the Mount Alexander Shire Council, Civic Centre, corner Lyttleton Street and Lloyd Street, Castlemaine.

National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week

Council invites the community along to a public event to recognise National Sorry Day. The event will be held at 11.00am on Saturday 26 May on the steps of the historic Market Building in Mostyn Street. National Sorry Day marks the beginning of Reconciliation Week, which runs until Sunday 3 June. Pop in to the Market Building throughout the week and see information on indigenous plants, food, a history display and more. The Reconciliation Week program has been developed by the Nalderun Upper Loddon Group, which consists of representatives from the local Indigenous community, community organisations, service providers and Council.

Learn how to market your business

Find out what it takes to make your business stand out from the crowd at Council’s next small business workshop, Marketing Your Business: How to get it right the first time. The workshop will be held from 6.00pm to 8.00pm on Monday 4 June at the Civic Centre. Cost is $20. Find out more or register at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/Business_resources.

Rates reminder

Ratepayers are reminded the final instalment for 2017/2018 is due on Thursday 31 May. Reminder notices have been sent to ratepayers outlining payment options. If you are having difficulty paying your rates please contact Council on 5471 1700.

2018/2019 Proposed Budget

Don't forget to have your say on Council's 2018/2019 Proposed Budget. For more information including how to make a submission visit www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/HaveYourSay. Hard copies of the budget are available at community hubs. Submissions close at 5.00pm on Wednesday 23 May.
