Mount Alexander Shire Council’s has announced further changes in service delivery to help reduce the impact of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s Customer Service Centre and Visitor Information Centres in the shire have closed to the public until further notice as a preventative measure to reduce the spread of the virus.

Staff will continue to provide phone and online support to customers and visitors.

The alteration in services is one of the actions in Council’s regional pandemic plan, and is in response to the directive from the Victorian Premier to shut down all non-essential activities across the state.

Council yesterday closed down all venues, community and recreation facilities and has cancelled or postponed all events as it cannot support non-essential public gatherings in the short to mid-term.

Public amenities such as toilets remain open at this stage with strict cleaning procedures in place.

The announcement follows to the changes in the delivery of aged care services, and maternal child and health services, announced last week to protect vulnerable members of the community.

Mount Alexander Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Darren Fuzzard said the organisation aims to keep programs and essential services running for as long as possible.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented and we are making decisions on how we continue and adjust our services on a daily basis based on the expert health advice we receive,” said Mr Fuzzard.

“We are doing what we can to continue services while meeting the social distancing and hygiene measures requirements, and restricting large public gatherings and non-essential meetings.

“We expect to see more changes announced as the numbers of coronavirus cases rises and as we hear more details from the Victorian Government on what defines essential services.”

Customers can continue contact Council by phone or email. They can also lodge a customer service request via the home page on Council’s website 24 hours, seven days a week.

The Customer Service Team is available on weekdays between 8.30am and 5.00pm on 5471 1700 or via info@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.

Customers can continue to make online payments via the council website, phone or via www.bpay.com.au. Please get in touch if you unable to make a payment or are experiencing financial hardship.

Staff at the Visitor Information Centres will be available from 9am to 5pm every day on 1800 171 888.

“We understand this is a difficult time, particularly where the livelihood of many local businesses is affected by the changes needed now to flatten the curve.

“We encourage everyone to follow the State Government precautions to minimise the spread and infection of COVID-19,” said Mr Fuzzard.

“Remember to look out for each other and check on your family, friends and neighbours that need might need assistance.”

“While times ahead will be tough, the state and federal governments have announced a number of relief packages for business and low income earners to help us all see this through,” he said.
