The newly elected Mount Alexander Shire Council has agreed that Councillor Tony Cordy will be the Mayor Elect and Councillor Bill Maltby will be Deputy Mayor Elect, pending the formal election at the Council Meeting on Tuesday 24 November.

Cr Cordy has represented the Calder Ward since 2014. Cr Maltby was elected to the Castlemaine Ward in this year’s Council election after previously serving as a Councillor for the City of Castlemaine from 1984 to 1995, with a term as Mayor in 1986.

“We have a great mix of people on our new Council and I’m looking forward to working with the new team and building on the excellent work of our former Council,” said Mayor Elect Tony Cordy.

“Thank you to the outgoing Councillors Bronwen Machin, Dave Petrusma, John Nieman and Max Lesser, who each worked incredibly hard and achieved a lot for our community.

“I also recognise the incredible contribution of former Mayor Christine Henderson, and am pleased to have Christine continue to represent the Coliban Ward.

“I’m confident that our newly elected Council has what it takes to support the community as it recovers from the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.

“One of our early priorities is to develop our four year Council Plan, which will guide our direction over the current term of office.

We look forward to working with the community to develop this plan early next year,” he said.

Crs Cordy and Maltby are joined on Council by Councillors Rosie Annear and Gary William McClure (Castlemaine Ward), Christine Henderson (Coliban Ward), Matthew Driscoll (Loddon Ward) and Stephen Gardner (Tarrengower Ward).

Deputy Mayor Elect Bill Maltby said he’s looking forward to his role on Council.

“I look forward to supporting Mayor Elect Tony Cordy as the Deputy Mayor and being a team player in what is a new Council,” said Cr Maltby.

“My previous Council experience will be valuable, particularly as we develop the Council Plan for the next four years,” he said.

The formal election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor by Councillors will occur at the Council Meeting held at 6.30pm on Tuesday 24 November. It will be broadcast live via YouTube. Search Mount Alexander Shire Council.
