The Mount Alexander Shire community always puts on a great show to celebrate Christmas, and we want to support our small towns in spreading this season’s cheer. This is why we’re offering Small Town Christmas Celebration Grants.

Council is offering grants of up to $1,000 per township to put towards outdoor decorations, community events and other celebrations you have in mind.

Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Mayor, Bill Maltby, is excited to see what Christmas celebrations take place this year.

“Our shire puts on fantastic community events every year and I’m really looking forward to our small towns coming to life this Christmas,” said Mayor Maltby.

“We’re here to support our small town communities in any way that we can, and these grants are a great opportunity for local groups to spread Christmas cheer and bring the community together.

“The grants can be put towards decorations, music, hampers, events, or anything else you can think of to activate community spaces during December.

“There’s one grant available per township, so make sure you speak to other community groups and get yourselves organised before submitting your application.”

Council’s Small Town Christmas Celebration Grants are part of a larger initiative to celebrate Christmas in Mount Alexander Shire during the month of December. Other elements will include art installations, decorations, performances, and events across the region.

Community groups from Castlemaine and Maldon don't need to apply for these grants as Council is already planning some great activities in these towns.

Grant applications open: Monday 26 September
Grant applications close: Monday 24 October

The application form is quick and simple, and available through the Grants page of Council’s website, along with guidelines and more details.

To speak to a Council team member to discuss your application, call 5471 1700 or email grants@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.
