Bands, soloists, duos, hip hop artists and acoustic acts can now apply to be a part of Mount Alexander FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands local heat.

Battle of the Bands is an annual music competition that gives young people an opportunity to gain performance experience in a supportive and safe environment.

Organised by Eight Metre Speaker (Council’s FReeZA Committee), young musicians from Mount Alexander Shire will compete against peers for great prizes plus a chance to play at Regionals and the Grand Final at a festival in Melbourne. The Grand Final prize is recording time and resources to support their music career.

“Battle of the Bands is a fantastic opportunity for young local musicians to take to the stage and perform in front of a live supportive audience,” said Jodie Hearn, Youth Activities Officer, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

To be eligible you must be aged between 12 and 25 years and live, work or play in Mount Alexander Shire. At least half of the members in each band must be aged under 21 years.

Application forms are available at Castlemaine Theatre Royal, Castlemaine Library, Record Low, Castlemaine Secondary College reception, Mount Alexander Shire Civic Centre and Mondo Lounge Youth Space on a Friday afternoon. You can also download the form from Council’s website or request an application via the Mount Alexander Youth Facebook page.

Applications are due by Monday 17 July. Battle of the Bands local heat will be held on Friday 4 August at the Castlemaine Theatre Royal.

FReeZA is a Victorian Government funded program that supports music and cultural events run by and for young people aged 12 to 25 years. All events are fully supervised, accessible, alcohol, drug and smoke free.

For more information including details on event accessibility and application eligibility, please contact Jodie Hearn, Youth Activities Officer, on 5471 1743 or email youth@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.
