Mount Alexander Planning Scheme
Notice of Approval of Amendment, Amendment C56

The Minister for Planning has approved Amendment C56 to the Mount Alexander Planning Scheme. The Amendment comes into operation on the date this notice is published in the Government Gazette. The Amendment implements recommendations of the ‘Diamond Gully Structure Plan, July 2016’ (DGSP) by rezoning a strip of land within the DGSP area from part Industrial 1 Zone (IN1Z) and Rural Living Zone (RLZ) to part General Residential Zone and part Industrial 3 Zone and applying the Environmental Significance Overlay (ESO) to land south of Diamond Gully Road and east of Sluicers Road within the DGSP area, amending the Municipal Strategic Statement at Clause 21.12 (Local Areas) to insert a new sub-Clause 21.12-3 (Diamond Gully), inserting a new Schedule 6 to the ESO to manage the risk of potential gas migration from the Castlemaine Landfill, amending the Schedule to Clause 61.03 to include a new Map 19ESO6 and including the ‘Diamond Gully Structure Plan, July 2016’ and the ‘Castlemaine Landfill Odour and Buffer Assessment 2016’ as reference documents in the planning scheme.

A copy of the Amendment can be inspected, free of charge, at the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning website at www.delwp.vic.gov.au/public-inspection and free of charge, during office hours, at the offices of the Mount Alexander Shire Council, Civic Centre, corner Lyttleton Street and Lloyd Street, Castlemaine.

Proposed disposal of Council property

10 Steele Street Maldon

Notice is given under Section 189 of the Local Government Act 1989 that Council at its Ordinary Meeting of 18 July 2017 resolved that it intends to dispose of land at 10 Steele Street in Maldon. Council is seeking written comment on the proposal to dispose of this property. Submissions will be considered in accordance with Section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989. Submissions should indicate whether the person or a person acting on their behalf wishes to be heard before Council.

Submitters who wish to speak in support of their submission will be heard at the Ordinary Meeting of Council to be held on 19 September 2017, commencing at 6.30pm at the Civic Centre. Councillor and community forum

Everyone is invited to a one-hour community forum at Harcourt. This is your opportunity to raise questions and provide feedback on Council’s activities across the shire. Come along to Battle of the Bands

Talented musicians aged between 12 and 25 years will take to the stage in August as part of the FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands. Everyone is invited to come along. The alcohol, drug and smoke free event is fully supervised and accessible. It will be held from 6.30pm to 11.00pm, Friday 4 August at the Theatre Royal, Castlemaine. Get involved in Regional Centre for Culture

Local artists and creatives are invited to attend information sessions on how they can benefit from Council’s participation in the Regional Centre for Culture (RCC) 2018. Come along and hear from producers, find out about funding opportunities and share ideas.

Information and Discussion Sessions will be held from 2.00pm to 3.30pm and from 5.30pm to 7.00pm, Friday 28 July at the Phee Broadway Theatre, Mechanics Lane, Castlemaine.

A session will also be held from 10.30am to 12.00noon on Tuesday 8 August at the Maldon Community Centre, 6 Francis Street. Find out more at www.creative.vic.gov.au/about/key-initiatives.

Free documentary screening on food waste

Come along to a free screening of the documentary Just Eat It – A food waste story and help to launch Council's compost and worm farm project. The screening begins at 7.00pm on Thursday 27 July at the Ray Bradfield Room, Forest Street, Castlemaine.
