The Exotic Lives of Lola Montez

Lola Montez

Thursday 27 July 2017

She horsewhipped the editor of the Ballarat Times for a bad review, swung down mineshafts on a single rope with champagne in hand and escaped arrest dressed only in her jewels.

The wildest showgirl of the nineteenth century was Lola Montez.

Come along to the Phee Broadway Theatre and delve into her fascinating and astonishing life.

Ms Montez toured Australia in 1855, performing throughout the goldfields including Castlemaine.

She invited miners to shower her with gold nuggets as she danced.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald in 1855 her erotic Spider Dance was “the most libertinish and indelicate performance that could be given on the public stage”.

The Exotic Lives of Lola Montez stars triple Best Actress Green Room Award winner Caroline Lee, who is also a direct descendant of Lola. Ms Lee is joined on stage by Parisian dance siren Holly Durant in a wildly contemporary dreamscape steeped in Australian history.

The scandal is legend. Come see for yourself.
