Locals have a say on future of our region

How would you improve the future of the Loddon Campaspe region? What key changes would strengthen the region, support communities and help local businesses to grow?

The Loddon Campaspe Regional Partnership recently held a workshop in Castlemaine to hear from locals on how state government decisions could benefit the region.

The partnership is working closely with local communities to ensure funding from the 2017-18 Victorian State Budget is directed to projects that are important to them.

Some of the top ideas voted by Castlemaine workshop participants were:

- Allocate government resources to rural communities on localised plans not programmatic funding.
- Introduce outreach youth workers and appropriate safe youth spaces in all shires across the region with ongoing funding.
- Support innovative starts ups for young people to encourage them to stay rural.
- Create safe places for vulnerable community members.
- Position Castlemaine as a state-wide centre of excellence for sustainability.

Other ideas included to establish a community bus network, improve energy trading and resource recovery options and work more closely with small business operators.

These ideas and more will be discussed at an upcoming regional assembly in Bendigo. The partnership is seeking people of all ages from everywhere in the shire to participate.

If you are unable to attend you can still sign up to participate in the conversation online.
