Maya Pearson wins Battle of the Bands

Congratulations to Maya Pearson, winner of the local heat of Battle of the Bands. Maya won a cash prize of $500 and entry into the regional finals. Solo artist Lilly Betts took out second place and Stop that Mammoth! came third. Event organisers Eight Metre Speaker thank event sponsors Theatre Royal and Record Low, along with FReeZa Push Start, Council’s Youth Development Team, Daniel Rogers, Lifon Henderson and judges Declan Kennedy, Tara Flynn and Drew Thorpe. FReeZA is a Victorian Government funded program that supports events run by and for young people.

Business awards finalists announced

Congratulations to the 16 businesses announced as finalists in the Mount Alexander Business Awards. The winners will be announced at a gala event at the Castlemaine Town Hall (note venue change) starting at 5.30pm on Wednesday 16 August. Tickets are $35. Drinks and canapes will be provided. Do business with Council

Business operators are invited to a free workshop to learn how to be considered for the supply of goods or services and contracts with Council. The workshop will be held from 5.30pm to 7.00pm on Wednesday 30 August at the Civic Centre. Book at the Business resources section of Council’s website or contact Andrea O’Grady on 5471 1724 by Monday 28 August.

Councillor and community forum

Everyone is invited to a one-hour community forum at Harcourt. This is your opportunity to raise questions and provide feedback on Council’s activities. The forum will be held from 5.00pm to 6.00pm on Tuesday 8 August at the ANA Hall, High St, Harcourt. RSVP to Shannon on 5471 1705 or s.mcmillan@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.

Help shape the future of our region

The Exotic Lives of Lola Montez

The wildest showgirl of the nineteenth century was Lola Montez. See her story onstage at 7.30pm on Thursday 24 August at the Phee Broadway Theatre, Mechanics Lane, Castlemaine. Learn about composting

Come along to a free workshop and learn about composting and worm farming with horticulturalist and social ecologist Peter Rutherford from the Kimbriki Eco House and Garden Education Centre. Calling partners of tradies

Hope Assistance Local Tradies (HALT) is a community initiative that reminds tradies they are valued and directs them to mental health support services. HALT is holding an event for Partners of Tradies to help and inform them on available services. It will be held on Wednesday 30 August at the Theatre Royal from 6.30pm to 9.00pm. Upcoming AGM

The Sutton Grange Hall Management Committee will hold its 2017 Annual General Meeting at 7.30pm on Monday 4 September. The meeting will be held at the Sutton Grange Hall on the corner of Faraday-Sutton Grange Road and Bendigo-Sutton Grange Road.
