Mount Alexander Shire Council advises rate notices are on the way and will arrive in letterboxes soon. The first instalment is due by the start of October.

Rates and charges (such as waste and recycling charges) are due in quarterly instalments.

“Your rate notice includes information such as the amount payable, due dates, property value and payment options,” said Bradley Thomas, Executive Manager Business Performance, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

Council has applied the two per cent rate cap introduced by the Victorian Government. The rate notice includes information to help rate payers understand how the rate cap has been applied.

“It is important to note that the rate cap applies to the overall rate revenue collected by Council, and does not apply to waste charges or the fire services property level,” said Mr Thomas.

Your rates go towards providing services like maternal and child health, meals on wheels, the library as well as maintenance and improvement of local roads, footpaths, sports facilities, playgrounds community halls and more.

Rates in Mount Alexander Shire are payable by four instalments, with the first instalment due on Monday 2 October 2017.

Council issues reminder notices at least 14 days before each instalment, and offers a number of convenient methods for payment.

Rate payers are encouraged to register with BPAY View to receive their rates electronically. Details are provided with rate notices.

If you haven’t received your rate notice by the end of August, or are having difficulty paying your rates, please contact Council on 5471 1700. For more information on rates visit www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/rates.
