Monday 28 August 2017

Several community halls and buildings across Mount Alexander Shire have received welcomed rejuvenation, following the recent completion of renewal works by Mount Alexander Shire Council.

Castlemaine community hubs including Castlemaine Senior Citizens Centre, Castlemaine Library and Ray Bradfield Room have been renewed and refreshed.

Upgrade works have also been undertaken at Elphinstone Hall, Barfold Hall, Metcalfe Hall, Sutton Grange Hall, Maldon Community Centre and Progress Hall, Campbells Creek Community Centre, Bill Woodfull Recreation Reserve and Guildford Hall.

“The renewal works have made a big difference in the look and feel of these buildings and will help everyone to safely use and enjoy these community hubs,” said Ben Grounds, Manager Community Places and Spaces, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“Thank you to the many hall committee members who provided valuable information, knowledge and support throughout this work,” he said.

“We look forward to these buildings continuing to function as important social hubs for many years to come.”

Chairman of the Elphinstone Facilities Committee Mike Reeves thanked Council for the work to the Elphinstone Hall.

“The hall had kitchen repairs, lighting upgrades and a new switchboard, along with exterior painting and new cisterns in the toilets,” said Mr Reeves.

“We also now have new shutters between the kitchen and the hall and the external woodwork has been repainted,” he said.

“It’s great to know the hall is in good working order and we welcome anyone interested in hiring this great space for a private or community function.”

The three year Community Hall renewal program is now in its final year. Priority works were identified through building audits and consultation with local committees.

Renewal works will this year focus on Baringhup Hall, Newstead Community Centre and Taradale Hall.
