Construction works to redevelop Wesley Hill Recreation Reserve into a first class multi-purpose sports precinct and junior sports hub are well under way with stage one expected to be completed before the end of the year.

Stage one includes the construction of six new netball courts, two cricket practice nets, carpark improvements, landscaping, retaining wall and accessible paths and ramps.

Mount Alexander Shire Council Manager Community Places and Spaces Ben Grounds said the reserve precinct has been transformed by the works.

“The bulk of the earthworks are now complete, and the major retaining wall is a significant feature of the site,” said Mr Grounds.

“The netball courts and cricket nets are nearing completion, and lighting is now installed on three of the netball courts,” he said.

“It’s very exciting to see this redevelopment unfold and watch all the elements come together.

“The netball and sporting community have shared a vision for this area, and it’s great to see the project progressing so well on schedule.”

The following works have been completed:
• Installation of retaining walls
• Drainage works around the reserve
• Flood lighting of three acrylic netball courts
• Installation of shelter for asphalt courts
• Concreting of footpaths adjacent to asphalt and acrylic netball courts
• Kerbing of the emergency access road
• Construction of stairs from access road to courtyard
• Concreting of access ramp and stairs from parking level to access road
• Installation of handrails to access ramp and stair
• Construction of cricket net fencing and concrete base.

Additional works underway:
• Construction of court yard and seating facilities
• Asphalt and acrylic surfacing of netball courts
• Installation of synthetic turf to cricket practice pitch
• Footpaths south of asphalt court
• Sealing of the emergency access road.

Planning work is already underway for stage two of the redevelopment, which includes a multi-use pavilion. Construction is scheduled to start in early 2018.

The stage one package of works is funded by $1.9 million from the Australian Government’s Community Development Grants Programme.
