Wednesday 20 September 2017

Seniors can look forward to a fantastic range of activities and fun in October as part of the 2017 Victorian Seniors Festival.

The festival is a great way to get active, try something new, catch up with friends and meet some new ones.

“The Seniors Festival provides a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and promote active living, healthy ageing and build new connections,” said Sharon Telford, Mayor of Mount Alexander Shire.

“I encourage all seniors to make the most of the varied program organised by different community groups and organisations this year. There really is something for everyone!”

Highlights include:

• Seniors Cricket Match – this annual event promises a great day out, whether you’re on the field or just enjoying a barbecue lunch while watching the game. The match is on from 11.00am to 3.30pm on Sunday 1 October at Harcourt Recreation Reserve.

• Hans Christian Anderson – Delightfully Danish – Join the ladies of Harcourt CWA for an afternoon of entertainment as they interpret several of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales. The performance starts at 1.30pm on Thursday 5 October at Harcourt Leisure Centre. Tickets are $8. To book contact Marie Twyford on 5472 5450 or harcourtcwa@gmail.com.

• Old Time Dance – Dance up a storm and enjoy afternoon tea with the Family Rhythm Orchestra and Metcalfe Senior Citizens Club. Head to the Newstead Community Centre from 1.00pm – 5.00pm on Sunday 8 October. Entry is $8.

• Free Community Concert – Fans of The Beatles will love this year’s free concert. Come on a magical mystery tour with Rubber Soul at 2.00pm on Wednesday 11 October at the Castlemaine Town Hall. Rubber Soul promises a faithful re-creation of the Beatles sound and Sgt Pepper’s costumes.

Many more events are planned throughout the month. Pick up your festival guide from community hubs from late September or visit Castlemaine Community House website.

Thank you to Castlemaine Community House, the passionate Working Committee and all local interest groups, organisations and volunteers who make the festival such a success.
