Animal registrations – is your pet paid up?

Animal registrations – is your pet paid up?
If not Council will be in touch...

Thursday 5th October

Have you forgotten to renew Rex’s registration? Neglected to ensure Kitty was paid up?

It’s long past the deadline for pet registration for Mount Alexander Shire Council and now Council is chasing down those who have forgotten to pay.

Tracey Watson, acting Coordinator Civic Compliance says it’s an easy thing to miss but an important one for your pets.

“All dogs and cats over the age of 3 months are required to be registered and microchipped with their local Council.

“These registrations and microchips allow us to reunite you with your pet as soon as possible if it gets lost.

“For most pets, the cost is $43 or if you have a current concession card, just $22, which is not much compared to how much your pet means to you.

“It’s also a lot cheaper than the fine you will get if your pet doesn’t have a current registration.”

New pets over three months old and pets new to the Shire also need to be registered, said Ms Watson.

“It is also important to let us know if you no longer have your pet. I know it’s not the first thing you think of when a pet passes away however we don’t want to bother you down the track because our records still have your pet alive and well.”

Registrations can be paid at the Civic Centre in Castlemaine or via mail. Renewals can also be paid for over the phone by calling 5471 1700.
