Friday 6 October

Mayor Sharon Telford has resigned on 6 October 2017 from the Mount Alexander Shire Council.

Ms Telford has served Mount Alexander Shire for five years as the Councillor for the Tarrengower Ward. She was re-elected in October 2016 and elected Mayor for a 12 month period.

“Mayor Telford’s resignation is an enormous loss for the community,” said Mount Alexander Shire Council CEO Darren Fuzzard.

“I would like to express our gratitude to Sharon for the dedication and passion that she has provided to the Mount Alexander Shire during her time as both Mayor and Councillor.

“She has led the Council over the past year, during which time Council undertook extensive community consultation to develop the comprehensive four year Council Plan we now have.

“Under her leadership, Council continued to find the balance between investing in roads, bridges, footpaths and our community buildings while progressing important projects such as Wesley Hill Recreation Reserve and maintaining a myriad of critical services across the Shire.”

Mr Fuzzard said Ms Telford brought a strong and collegiate approach amongst her Councillors and the Shire’s executive team in the role as Mayor.

“Sharon’s work ethic and commitment to being involved in community activities across the Shire, in particular during her role as Mayor, has been exemplary.

“I know that Sharon always wanted what was best for everyone in the community and I will miss working alongside her.”

The Victorian Electoral Commission will undertake the process for filling the extraordinary vacancy following advice of Councillor Telford’s resignation.
