Embrace Mental Health Week at Mondo Lounge

Young people aged 12 to 25 are invited to celebrate Mental Health Week at Mondo Lounge youth space on Friday 13 October. Council’s Youth Advisory Group (YAG) is holding a fun afternoon of activities to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. Come along to Mondo Lounge from 3.30pm to 6.00pm on Friday 13 October at the rear of Castlemaine Continuing Education, 30 Templeton Street, Castlemaine.

Share your thoughts on family needs

What support do young children and families need in Mount Alexander Shire? That’s the question at the heart of a survey that will help shape an Early Years Plan for our shire. The survey is available on the Have Your Say section of Council’s website or at the Civic Centre, Maternal and Child Health Centre, Castlemaine Library, kindergartens and community centres. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes and will close on Friday 20 October. Survey participants go into the draw to win some great prizes.

Wamble along Forest Creek

Come along on a walking-ramble or ‘wamble’ along Forest Creek and learn about the ecosystem, plants and wildlife of this important waterway. Hear from Jon Leevers from Castlemaine Landcare Group and Council’s Natural Environment Officer. The free event will be held from 10.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday 28 October. Apply for regional leadership program

Community Leadership Loddon Murray (CLLM) is seeking applicants from central and north-west Victoria with an interest in sustainable and vibrant rural communities who want to grow their skills, knowledge, confidence, networks and impact. Final chance to have a say on streetscape standards

Come along to a listening post and chat with Council staff and consultants on the draft streetscape standards developed for Maldon and Castlemaine. The standards include design options for things like paving, lighting and street furniture. The Castlemaine listening post will be held at 10.00am to 12.00noon on Saturday 14 October outside the Market Building on Mostyn Street, Castlemaine. The Maldon listening post will be held at 10.00am to 12.00noon on Saturday 28 October outside the Wheel and Loom building, Maldon. Details on the proposed standards will be available after each listening post on the Have your say section of Council’s website. Seniors festival in October

Celebrate the contribution of our older residents at the many events planned as part of the 2017 Seniors Festival. Don’t forget to head along to the free community concert featuring Rubber Soul singing the hits of The Beatles. The concert kicks off at 2.00pm on Wednesday 11 October at Castlemaine Town Hall. Collect a program from the Civic Centre or Castlemaine Library and online at www.cch.org.au.

October is Walk to School month

Primary school students around the shire will be out and about walking, riding and scooting to school throughout October as part of Walk to School Month. Twelve primary schools in the shire have signed up to participate in this VicHealth initiative which aims to help build healthy habits for life. Watch out for fun activities in October!
