Proposed lease of Council property

35 Etty Street Castlemaine

Notice is given under Section 190 of the Local Government Act 1989 that Council intends to lease land at 35 Etty Street in Castlemaine to Workspace Australia.

Council intends on entering into a head lease with the Department of Education and Training for unused land and buildings at the former Castlemaine Secondary College Etty Street campus for a period of five years. This lease allows for further land and buildings to be added to the lease as Castlemaine Secondary College ceases using them.

Council intends on entering into a five year sub-lease to Workspace Australia. The permitted use of the land under the lease will be office space, educational, community and commercial activities. The rental will be $120 per year. The lease to Workspace Australia proposes to pass on all obligations from the head lease (between Council and the Department of Education and Training) to Workspace Australia.

Council is seeking written comment on the proposal to lease these premises. Submissions will be considered in accordance with Section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989. Submissions should indicate whether the person or a person acting on their behalf wishes to be heard before Council.

Written submissions will be accepted until 5.00pm on Monday 20 November 2017.

Submitters who wish to speak in support of their submission will be heard at a Special Meeting of Council to be held at 6.00pm on Tuesday 28 November 2017 at the Civic Centre. Submissions should be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Mount Alexander Shire Council, PO Box 185, Castlemaine VIC 3450, or email info@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.
