Council's free green waste disposal period starts this weekend!

Thursday 26 October 2017

Mount Alexander Shire Council reminds residents they can dispose of green waste for free from Saturday 28 October to Sunday 12 November.

Council began the free green waste disposal initiative to help residents prepare their homes and properties for the fire danger period.

During this time shire residents can dispose of green waste at no cost at the Castlemaine and Maldon waste facilities during normal operating hours.

“This warmer weather is a great time to get outdoors and spend some time in the garden,” said Ben Bowman, Manager Healthy Environments, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“Get your property ready for the fire danger period by clearing your gutters, pulling out the weeds, and making sure you have a clear fire break around your home,” said Mr Bowman.

“Don’t forget your green waste needs to be free of rubbish and noxious weeds and emptied from plastic bags,” he said.

Acceptable green waste is grass clippings, natural wood and tree branches less than 100mm diameter.

Proof of residence in the shire is required on entry.

Normal green waste fees will apply to businesses or residents acting on behalf of businesses.

Loads containing items other than green waste will be charged accordingly. Normal gate fees will apply before and after the free 16 day period.
