Former councillor Chris Cole received the highest number of votes in a countback conducted by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) today.

The countback was conducted to fill the extraordinary vacancy in the Castlemaine Ward in Mount Alexander Shire, following the resignation of Cr Tony Bell in October.

Under legislation, former Councillor Chris Cole has 48 hours to accept the role. The VEC will notify council regarding the outcome. If Mr Cole does not accept, the VEC will run another countback.
