Discontinuation of unused Government road

Off Fryers-Taradale Road
Parish of Fryers

Notice is given pursuant to sections 206 (1) Schedule 10 Clause 3 and 223 of the Local Government Act 1989 that Mount Alexander Shire Council proposes to discontinue the unused Government road off Fryers-Taradale Road in Parish of Fryers (proposal). This proposal is made under Section 206 (1) Schedule 10 of the Local Government Act 1989.

In accordance with Section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989 a person may make a submission to this proposal. Submissions are to be received no later than 5.00pm on Wednesday 17 January 2018 and addressed or delivered to Chief Executive Officer, Mount Alexander Shire Council, PO Box 185, 25 Lyttleton Street, Castlemaine VIC 3450 or info@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.

Any person making a submission must state in that submission whether he or she wishes to appear in person, or to be represented by a person specified in the submission. Submissions will be heard at the Ordinary Meeting of Council at 6.30pm on Tuesday 20 February 2018 in the Castlemaine Civic Centre.

Council has launched Connect Mount Alexander, an online community directory that allows groups to share skills, volunteers and resources. Register your community group by 5.00pm on Wednesday 20 December to go into the draw to win $500.

Nominations close soon

If you know someone who does great work for our community nominate them for the Mount Alexander Australia Day Awards. Categories include Citizen of the Year, Young Person of the Year, Senior of the Year and Event of the Year. Nominations close on Friday 15 December. Forms are available at the Civic Centre or the Australia Day Awards section of our website.

Phee Broadway residency program

Council and the Regional Centre for Culture (RCC) is offering a new residency program that offers the use of the Phee Broadway Theatre to develop and present creative works. Expressions of interest are open until 5.00pm on Friday 12 January. Find out more at the Arts and Culture section of our website or contact our Cultural Development Officer on 5471 1700.

Council services over holiday period

Council offices close from 3.00pm on Friday 22 December and reopen at 8.30am on Tuesday 2 January 2018. The collection of kerbside recycling and waste bins will not take place on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The collection service will be carried out the following day (Tuesday). For emergencies regarding roads and drains, maternal and child services or stock and animal control (excluding wildlife) call 5471 1700 and follow the prompts. Councillors and staff wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.
