If you’re looking for a last-minute Christmas gift be sure to head down to the Market Building in Castlemaine and take a look at the wonderful range of local artwork on display.

The Market Art Summer Exhibition features works from more than 100 local artists, with photography, jewellery, painting, sculpture, glassware, textiles and more to choose from.

“Artists from our region have once again shown their skill and creativity and delivered a fabulous variety of works,” said Lisa Knight, Director Corporate and Community Support, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“We are very lucky to have such talent in our shire and I encourage everyone to pop in and take a look and enjoy the quality of works on offer,” said Ms Knight.

All artworks are for sale, with works starting at $15.

The exhibition has been very popular, with a steady stream of visitors dropping into the exhibition and buying a piece of art.

Last year more than 20,000 people visited the Market Art Summer Exhibition, with 154 pieces sold.

“The Market Building also has plenty of other locally sourced items for sale all year round, such as local honey and produce, sweets, tea towels, a wide range of books and a whole lot more – perfect for any stocking that needs filling,” said Ms Knight.

The Market Building is located at 44 Mostyn Street, Castlemaine and is open every day from 9.00am – 5.00pm other than Christmas Day.

The exhibition is on until Sunday 25 February 2018.

Market Art is coordinated by Mount Alexander Shire Council. The exhibition helps to support and promote cultural and artistic communities, which is an objective in the Council Plan 2017-2021.
