Cool off for free on Australia Day

Castlemaine pool

Head to your local pool on Australia Day, cool off and join in all the fun.

Friday 5 January 2018

There’s no better way to beat the heat this summer than heading to your local pool, and patrons can swim for free at Harcourt, Maldon and Castlemaine swimming pools on Australia Day as part of Mount Alexander Shire’s Australia Day activities.

The free admission is an initiative of Council and Bendigo Regional YMCA, and includes entry to a community pool party.

There’s plenty of action also planned at the Newstead and District Swimming Pool on Australia Day with a family day being held with inflatable fun and novelty games for children.

A barbecue lunch is available for a gold coin donation, with proceeds going to a local charity. Bring your own picnic needs and salads. Pool entry fees at Newstead are as usual.

Pool opening hours for Australia Day:

Castlemaine: 1.00pm – 6.00pm
Harcourt: 1.00pm – 6.00pm
Maldon: 1.00pm – 6.00pm
Newstead: 12.00noon – 8.00pm

Don’t forget Council is hosting an Australia Day community event at Victory Park in Castlemaine. The event runs from 10.30am to 1.30pm on Friday 26 January. Meet Australia Day Award recipients and welcome our newest Australian citizens. Enjoy a free barbecue lunch and entertainment including live music, a bouncy castle and face painting for kids.

Other activities around the shire on Australia Day include:

• Maldon – free breakfast, live music, speakers and citizenship awards from 8.30am to 10.30am at Maldon Gardens
• Harcourt – free breakfast, flag raising ceremony, community awards and children’s activities from 8.00am to 10.00am at Stanley Park
• Faraday – flag raising ceremony, local poetry and community barbecue picnic from 10.30am to 2.00pm at Dunstan’s Flat.
