The free disposal period does not apply to normal garden waste, grass clippings or commercial waste. Roadside wood collection will be available for community members in February. Conditions apply. Blue-green algae at Lake Joanna

A blue-green algae outbreak has been detected at Lake Joanna in the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens. Please avoid direct contact with the water and keep your pets away from the water. Direct contact with blue-green algae can cause skin rashes or itchiness. It may cause nausea or vomiting if swallowed. People who come into contact with contaminated water should wash immediately in clean water. Blue-green algae occur in lakes naturally. Recent weather conditions have contributed to the bloom. Council will continue to monitor the lake with further tests over the coming weeks.
