Australia Day awards

Congratulations to recipients of Mount Alexander Shire Australia Day Awards:

Thank you to all award nominees for your contribution to the shire. Roadworks ahead

Current roadworks:

•Harcourt North – Road rehabilitation works at the intersection of McIvor Road and Harmony Way until Monday 5 February. Vehicles may experience short delays so please allow some extra travel time.

Upcoming intersection closures:

•Faraday – Closure of intersection at Golden Point Road and Harmony Way from Monday 5 February to Friday 9 February. Detour via Pyrenees Highway.
•Castlemaine – Closure of intersection at Forest and Bowden streets from Monday 12 February until Friday 2 March. Local detours will be signposted.

Opportunities for small businesses

Put your business on the path to long-term success at Council's first Small Business Workshop for 2018. Learn how to build a business plan to drive your business (or your business idea) forward. The workshop will be held at 6.00pm to 8.00pm on Monday 5 February at the Civic Centre in Castlemaine. Cost is $20. To register follow the link from the Business Resources section of Council’s website.

Council will also hold the Show me the Money information session from 8.45am to 11.00am on Tuesday 6 February to help local businesses learn more about grants available from the Victorian Government. For more information contact Eva Parkin on 5471 1805.

Community grants open

Council’s Community Grant Program is now open. Grants of up to $3,000 are available to incorporated and not-for-profit community groups and organisations to support local events, activities or projects that align with Council objectives. Applications close at 4.00 pm on Friday 23 February. Find out more at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/CommunityGrants or contact Rebecca Smith on 5471 1744 or grants@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.

Apply for Land Management Rate

Applications are open for the Land Management Rate. This special rate category is available to properties rated as a farm in the 2017/2018 financial year and are more than 20 hectares (49 acres) in size, or operate a farm business. Owners must commit to undertake specified environmental management activities on the property. Successful applicants will receive a 20 percent reduction off the general property rate for three financial years. Tarrengower Ward by-election

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) is conducting a by-election for the vacancy in the Tarrengower Ward in February. Three candidates have been confirmed. Ballot packs will be posted between Tuesday 30 January and Thursday 1 February to voters enrolled in the Tarrengower Ward. Completed ballot papers must be postmarked, or received by the Returning Officer, by 6.00pm, Friday 16 February when voting closes. If you have not received your ballot papers or will be absent during the voting period contact the VEC on 131 832. For more information about the candidates visit www.vec.vic.gov.au.
