Mount Alexander Shire Council is encouraging community members to have a say on how you would like to hear from Council and what you would like to know.

The findings of the communications survey will help shape a strategic plan to improve communication and engagement with the community.

Complete the survey by Sunday 11 March to go into the draw to win one of five $100 vouchers from a local butcher or grocer.

“During consultation on our four year Council plan we heard that people wanted better communication and more engagement opportunities with Council,” said Lisa Knight, Director, Corporate and Community Services, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“We are developing a strategic communications plan to keep the Mount Alexander Shire community and stakeholders better informed about our programs, activities and services,” said Ms Knight.

“As a first step, this survey will help us understand how we can better connect and engage with the different members of our community.”

The development of a strategic communications plan will also help Council address the proposed changes in government legislation to increase the transparency of councils and get citizens more involved in decision making.

Council is also reviewing communication preferences given technology has changed how it can share information and provide online services.

“Social media applications like Facebook and Instagram help Council to communicate immediately with local residents, businesses, community groups and organisations as well as ratepayers that may not live in the shire,” said Ms Knight.

“At the same time we need to ensure we are still meeting the diverse needs of individuals in our community with easy to understand information and accessible ways to connect with us.

“Please take this opportunity to let us know what your preferences are and what you are interested in,” she said.

The survey is available online at the have your say section of Council’s website www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au and will take five to ten minutes to complete.

Printed copies are available at the Civic Centre in Castlemaine, Castlemaine Library, Visitor Information Centres in Maldon and Castlemaine, and community hubs around the shire.

Council will share the findings later in the year.
