Congratulations to Cr Gardner

Stephen Gardner has been elected as a Mount Alexander Shire Councillor to fill the Tarrengower Ward vacancy, following the resignation of Sharon Telford. The election result follows a by-election conducted by the Victorian Electoral Commission. Councillors and staff congratulate Cr Gardner on his election and look forward to supporting him in the role. For more details visit www.vec.vic.gov.au.

How do you want to hear from us?

Council is encouraging community members to have a say on how you would like to hear from us and what you would like to know. Your feedback will help to shape a strategic plan to improve communication and community engagement. Complete the survey by Sunday 11 March to go into the draw to win one of five $100 vouchers from a local butcher or grocer. The survey is available online at the have your say section of Council’s website. Printed copies are available at the Civic Centre in Castlemaine, Castlemaine Library, Visitor Information Centres in Maldon and Castlemaine and community hubs around the shire. Council will share the findings later in the year.

Fun free events

The Regional Centre for Culture (RCC) 2018 has some great free events coming up right acoss the shire and everyone is invited to head along.

Water Hole: Fun and music from 2.30pm on Saturday 3 March at Newstead and District Swimming Pool.

Punctum’s Public Cooling House: Cool off and enjoy performers and speakers from Friday 2 to Sunday 4, and Friday 10 to Sunday 12 March at the Botanical Gardens, Castlemaine. Bookings required.

Arts Open – Artists’ studios: Visit artist studios throughout the shire from Friday 10 to Sunday 12, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 March.

Intersection upgrade

Works are underway to upgrade the intersection at Forest and Bowden streets in Castlemaine. The intersection is closed to traffic and pedestrians until Friday 2 March while we reconstruct the intersection. Please follow traffic detours and speed limits. Allow for extra travel time, especially during peak periods. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Work on your business systems

Consistency keeps customers coming back so it’s important that you have the right systems and practices to help deliver consistent products and services first time, every time. Learn tips and strategies at Council’s next small business workshop, Effective business practices. The 3.5 hour workshop runs from 9.30am to 1.00pm on Monday 5 March at the Civic Centre. Show your work at the Phee

Council is looking for artists, makers, curators and organisations interested in exhibiting work as part of the 2018 Phee Broadway Foyer Exhibition Program. Complete an expression of interest form online at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/Supporting_our_arts or get in touch with Vicki Anderson, Cultural Development Officer, on 5471 1877. Expressions of interest are due at 5.00pm on Thursday 15 March.
