Sale of unclaimed sheep

Council officers impounded 16 black and white Dorper Suffolk cross rams and ewes found in Elphinstone. The sheep have purple PIC tags with number 3MRKP069. If the sheep are not claimed and expenses paid by Friday 6 April Council intends to sell the sheep by public auction at the Bendigo Livestock Exchange at 10.00am on Monday 9 April. Have a say on urban creekways

Council has developed a draft management plan for the 70 hectares of creekside public land around Chewton, Castlemaine and Campbells Creek. Council developed the plan in collaboration with the Friends of Campbells Creek and Castlemaine Landcare Group to continue to improve the area and adjoining public land. We invite you to comment on the draft plan. Review the plan at the Civic Centre or online at the Have Your Say section of our website. Written submissions will be accepted until Tuesday 1 May. Business ideas workshop

If you have a brilliant idea for a business but are unsure of how to get things started come along to Council’s next small business workshop. The Commercialising Your Ideas workshop will be held across two sessions on Monday 16 and 23 April. It also includes follow up one-on-one mentoring sessions. Calling young creatives

Creative people aged between 12 and 25 years are invited to participate in a Young Makers’ Market as part of the shire’s National Youth Week celebrations. The market will showcase the skills, accomplishments and contributions of young people and provide an opportunity to sell their creations. The Makers' Market will be open from 12noon to 5.00pm on Saturday 21 April at the Western Reserve, Forest Street, Castlemaine.

Council services over Easter

Council offices will close for the Easter long weekend at 5.00pm on Thursday 29 March and reopen at 8.30am Tuesday 3 April. Kerbside waste and recycling due for collection on Good Friday will be collected on Easter Saturday. Castlemaine and Maldon waste facilities will be closed on Good Friday. For emergencies regarding roads and drains, maternal and child services or stock and animal control (excluding wildlife) please call 5471 1700 and follow the prompts.

Fire Danger Period continues

A number of out of control fires in the shire have prompted Council to remind the community that fire restrictions are still in place. If you intend to burn off or have an outdoor fire you must comply with certain restrictions or obtain a permit from Council. Meet Councillors at Sutton Grange

Councillors will be at the Sutton Grange Hall for a Councillor Briefing Session on Tuesday 3 April. Community members are invited to come along after the briefing from 6.00pm to meet Councillors and discuss local matters in an informal setting. Pet registrations due soon

Council has sent out renewal notices for pet registrations, which are due on Tuesday 10 April. If you’re new to the shire or have only recently gained a furry friend you can drop into the Civic Centre to register your pet.
