Proposed Budget 2018/2019

Mount Alexander Shire Council has prepared a Proposed Budget for 2018/2019. At a meeting on Tuesday 17 April, Council resolved to exhibit the proposed budget for public comment. Community members are encouraged to review the draft and make a submission.

Copies of the document and a budget summary are available for public inspection during office hours at the Civic Centre in Castlemaine, or via the Have your say section of Council’s website at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/HaveYourSay. Copies are also available at the Castlemaine Library, Visitor Information Centres in Maldon and Castlemaine, and the Newstead Rural Transaction Centre.

Submissions must be in writing, and be lodged by 5.00pm on Wednesday 23 May 2018.

Please address submissions titled 2018/2019 Budget to the Chief Executive Officer, Mount Alexander Shire Council, PO Box 185, Castlemaine, VIC 3450 or email to info@mountalexander.gov.au.

All submissions will be considered in accordance with Section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989. They should indicate whether the person, or a person acting on their behalf, wishes to be heard before Council. Submissions will be heard at a Special Meeting of Council on Tuesday 5 June. Council will consider the 2018/2019 Budget at an Ordinary Meeting of Council on Tuesday 26 June. The meetings will start at 6.30pm at the Civic Centre in Castlemaine and will be open to the public.

Join the LGBTIQ roundtable

Expressions of Interest are now open for people interested in joining Mount Alexander Shire community’s LGBTIQ roundtable. The roundtable aims to support LGBTIQ people in our community to have equal access and support from Council and other organisations. Nomination forms and the Terms of Reference are now available at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/HaveYourSay. Expressions of Interest are due by 5.00pm on Monday 7 May. Personal information will be treated confidentially.

Seeking descendants of a proposed road name

Council has been requested to name an unnamed road off Crocodile Reservoir Road, Fryerstown. The proposed name for the road is ‘Escott’, after Elizabeth Escott, a widow who came to Australia with her eight children in a bid to make a new life for her family in the Fryers region. Any persons who have a familial link to the naming proposal or object to the proposed name have 30 days to notify Council in writing.
