Enjoy local trails this spring

Upgraded path at Happy Valley - Leanganook Trail.

Monday 24 September 2018

Spring is an ideal time to head outdoors and make the most of the many walking tracks and trails around Mount Alexander Shire.

While there are plenty of options to choose from, recent upgrades to Leanganook Trail at Happy Valley and the trail along Campbells Creek make these options a fabulous way to enjoy the warmer weather, get some exercise and take in local surroundings.

“People wandering along Leanganook Trail or Campbells Creek will notice the new stretches of path and improvements to existing trails,” said Tanya Goddard, Executive Manager Infrastructure, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“The drainage improvements and new path have made a big difference to the trails,” said Ms Goddard.

“We appreciate the input and help from local community groups who have assisted throughout this process, particularly Friends of Campbells Creek, Castlemaine Landcare Group and Dja Dja Wurrung,” said Ms Goddard.

The 17.7 kilometre Castlemaine to Maldon Trail is another local option for walkers and cyclists to enjoy stunning natural surroundings as they travel alongside the historic Victorian Goldfields Railway.

“The Castlemaine to Maldon Trail not only links our two largest towns, it also connects to the Campbells Creek walking and cycling track,” said Ms Goddard.

“Council is investing in these local assets to make it easier for people to get active. We encourage everyone to make the most of trail network, especially now that we’re into spring.

“Trails are an important community asset, and with around 40 kilometres of trails to choose from, there are many options on offer,” she said.

Council’s Works Team conducts monthly inspections and required maintenance of the Castlemaine to Maldon Trail, along with works to ensure safe access for emergency vehicles.
