2017 Youth Awards

Nominate now for the 2019 Mount Alexander Shire Youth Awards.

If you know a young person aged 12 to 25 in Mount Alexander Shire that deserves to be recognised make sure you nominate them for youth award.

The Mount Alexander Youth Awards are held every two years and are a celebration of local young people who live, work, study or play in the shire. The awards aim to recognise and highlight the work young people are doing and the contributions they make to the wider community.

“The awards are a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge and promote the important role that young people play in our shire,” said Shannon Lacy, Council’s Youth Development Officer.

“There are so many amazing and inspiring young people in our community. We really encourage everyone to take a few minutes to give those young people the recognition they deserve and nominate them for a Mount Alexander Shire Youth Award,” she said.

The 2019 Youth Award categories are for leadership in:

• The Workplace – acknowledges outstanding achievement within the business sector, traineeship or apprenticeship.
• Music and the Arts – recognises significant participation and leadership in the visual or performing arts.
• Sports and Recreation – celebrates significant contribution to the sporting community, outstanding commitment and passion to excelling in their field.
• The Community – recognises significant contribution to the community through volunteering, caring, events/activities or leadership in committees or groups.
• The Environment – acknowledges commitment and leadership in sustainability and significant contribution to the environment through community activity or activism.
• Education – celebrates outstanding leadership at their educational institute and effort and commitment to excelling in their education.

Nominations for the awards close at midnight on Sunday 24 March. To nominate, visit the events section of www.mountalexandershireyouth.com.au or pick up a nomination form from the Civic Centre, Castlemaine Library and the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre.

Winners will be announced at a free Youth Awards Festival at Victory Park in Castlemaine on Friday 5 April. Winners will receive a certificate and prize valued at $100.

The award celebrations are a Council initiative, supported by the Victorian Government’s Youth Week Grants and will be held as part of Victorian Youth Week 2019.
