Join our safety committee

Victoria Police and Council are calling for two community members and two local businesspeople to join the Mount Alexander Shire Safety Committee (MASSC). The committee has been established to provide advice to Council in relation to community safety issues. Members may have experience or interest in community safety, public health, community development, crime prevention, emergency services or have strong community networks. To apply for a place on the committee please read the Terms of Reference and complete an Expression of Interest available from www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/AdvisoryCommittee. Woollen repair workshop

Do your winter woollies need mending? Castlemaine CWA and Council are holding a needle felting workshop from 10.00am to 2.00pm on Saturday 13 July at Ray Bradfield Room, Castlemaine. You’ll learn the skills needed to mend your woollens. Kits will be available on the day. The workshop will be hosted by Renee Thompson and light refreshments will be served. Cost is $10. Scam alert

There has been a significant increase in scammers taking money and personal information from Australians, particularly those over the age of 65 years. Scammers are known to have phoned people and claimed to be from trusted organisations like NBN or internet providers. To avoid being scammed hang up on unsolicited phone calls and never allow callers to log into your computer. Do not provide bank account or other personal details to these callers. If you think a scammer has gained access to your personal information contact your financial institution immediately.

Maldon Transfer Station closure

The Maldon Transfer Station will be temporarily closed on Wednesday 26 and Friday 28 June while a new e-waste shelter is installed. We apologise for the inconvenience. The Castlemaine Transfer Station is open everyday from 8.00am to 4.00pm.

E-waste banned from landfill

Don’t forget the Victorian Government has banned e-waste from going to landfill from 1 July. Please don’t throw it in the bin. You can drop off your e-waste at waste facilities in Castlemaine and Maldon. Fees apply.

Accessible carpark upgrade

Works will soon begin to upgrade four carparks in Castlemaine to meet Australian accessibility standards. The carparks are located at 23, 64 and 72 Lyttleton Street and 30 Templeton Street. The works will be completed by late July. The carparks will be unavailable during this time. We apologise for any inconvenience. Staff have worked with Mount Alexander Shire Disability Advocacy Group to identify the priority carparks.

Free youth leadership workshop

Young people aged between 12 and 25 years are invited to participate in free leadership training as part of our Mondo Lounge school holiday program. The workshop covers decision making, campaign delivery, public speaking and more. The Leadership 101 Workshop will be held from 10.00am to 3.30pm on Wednesday 10 July. Bookings are essential. Baringhup solar farm hearings

Planning Panels Victoria has announced details on the upcoming Panel Hearing relating to the proposed solar farm in Baringhup. The Panel Hearing will be held at 10.00am on Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 July at Bill Woodfull Recreation Reserve at Maldon and 10.00am on Tuesday 23 July at Baringhup Hall. The hearings are open to the public. Further information will be available from www.planning.vic.gov.au/panels-and-committees.
