Apply for Battle of the Bands

Musicians aged 12 to 25 are encouraged to sign up to the Battle of the Bands for a chance to play at the Castlemaine Theatre Royal and win $500.

Council’s FReeZA Committee Eight Metre Speaker has opened up the competition to young musicians who live, work or play in Central Victoria. Conditions apply. Pick up an application form from Castlemaine Secondary College, Castlemaine Library, Mondo Lounge or the Civic Centre or visit our youth website. The event will be held on Friday 30 August. Get your application in by Monday 5 August.

Join Baringhup solar farm hearings

Planning Panels Victoria is holding a Panel Hearing relating to the proposed solar farm in Baringhup. The Panel Hearing started on Monday 15 July and continues at 10.00am on Tuesday 16 July at Bill Woodfull Recreation Reserve in Maldon, and 10.00am on Tuesday 23 July at Baringhup Hall. The hearings are open to the public.

The consultation period for the draft Camp Reserve Master Plan is extended until Monday 22 July. View the plan and online feedback form on our website.

Community grants open soon

Come along to an information session to learn about Council’s community grants to support new and emerging community-based projects and initiatives that align with council priorities.

Information sessions will be held at 10.00am on Friday 19 July at Castlemaine Town Hall, 10.00am on Monday 22 July at Maldon Community Centre, and 6.00pm on Monday 22 July at the Civic Centre. Register at bit.ly/MtAlexBoxOffice.

Hazardous tree removal works

Visitors to Mount Alexander Regional Park are advised tree removal works along Joseph Young Drive in Harcourt are underway to improve public safety and emergency vehicle access.

The works by Forest Fire Management Victoria and Council started on Monday 15 July, and are expected to take two weeks with works occurring during the weekend.

The north end of Joseph Young Drive will be closed to through traffic for the first few days. Access to nearby campgrounds and the communications tower will remain open via the Faraday-Sutton Grange Road end.

As works progress, Joseph Young Drive will be closed at the south end with alternate access via Harcourt-Sutton Grange Road.

E-waste banned from landfill

Don't forget the Victorian Government has banned e-waste from going to landfill from 1 July.
Please don’t throw it in the bin. You can drop off your e-waste at waste facilities in Castlemaine and Maldon. Fees apply.

Meetings are held at the Civic Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend. Council meetings are filmed and broadcast to the internet via YouTube.
