Four centrally-located car parks in Castlemaine have recently been upgraded to meet Australian accessibility standards.

Mount Alexander Shire Council identified the priority car parks with the help of Mount Alexander Shire Disability Advocacy Group (MASDAG).

The car parks allow easier access to a medical clinic, public toilets and Castlemaine Community House. Three car parks are located on Lyttleton Street and one on Templeton Street.

Council also recently upgraded two accessible car parks on Mostyn Street as part of their footpath renewal program.

“Thank you to everyone who was so patient during the upgrades,” said Phil Josipovic, Council’s Director Infrastructure and Development.

“We’ve heard some very positive feedback following the works,” he said.

“MASDAG has been a big help to us in identifying the priority car parks for upgrade. We appreciate their assistance and look forward to working with them to continue to make our shire more accessible for everyone.”
