Council welcomes new Risk Advisory member

Mount Alexander Shire Council has appointed Linda McNeill from Barkers Creek as the new member of Council’s Audit and Risk Advisory Committee.

Ms McNeill is a risk, safety and quality management adviser with experience in the private and public sector. She is the founder and director of Run the Risk Consulting.

Council’s Executive Manager Organisational Capability Jude Holt said Linda combines strong expertise in risk with enthusiasm for the community and volunteering.

“The committee was very impressed by Linda’s experience on committees and her roles within local government,” said Ms Holt.

“Linda holds a business degree and is a qualified auditor for the International Standards for risk, quality and safety,” she said.

“As a local resident we’re sure she’ll bring a unique perspective. We’re very pleased to welcome Linda and look forward to working with her on the committee.”

Ms McNeill said she is delighted to join the committee.

"I'm keen to bring my experience and local knowledge to the role and am excited to contribute to this wonderful community," said Ms McNeill.

Ms McNeill was appointed through an Expression of Interest process following the resignation of Marina Bland from the committee earlier this year.

“Marina was an invaluable member of the committee and we thank her for all her work over the last three years,” said Ms Holt.

There are currently four independent committee members on the Audit and Risk Advisory Committee. Each member is appointed for a three year term. The committee also comprises two Councillors.

Current members are Ken Belfrage, Nicole Cox, Glenn Sutherland, Linda McNeill, Cr Bronwen Machin and Cr Max Lesser.

The committee is appointed by Council in accordance with Section 139 of the Local Government Act 1989. Its main objectives are to assist Council with its responsibilities in relation to finances, auditing, governance and risk.
