Disposal of Council property

205 Main Road Chewton (Chewton Community Centre, former church building, formerly part of 201 Main Road)
Notice is given under Section 189 of the Local Government Act 1989 that Council at its Ordinary Meeting of 17 December 2019 resolved to give public notice of its intention to dispose of the Chewton Community Centre at 205 (formerly 201) Main Road Chewton.

In 2017 Council resolved to subdivide the land at 201 Main Road Chewton to enable the sale of the former Wesleyan
Church building and land. However, due to the passage of time, best practice by Council requires that updated public notice should be given. Council is seeking written comment on the proposal to dispose of this property. Submissions will be considered in accordance with Section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989.

Submissions should indicate whether the person or a person acting on their behalf wishes to be heard before Council.
For any questions regarding this matter, contact Lynne Williamson, Property Portfolio Coordinator on 5471 1700.

Written submissions will be accepted until 5.00pm on Wednesday 26 February 2020. Submitters who wish to speak in support of their submission will be heard at an Ordinary Meeting of Council on a date to be advised.

Submissions should be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Mount Alexander Shire Council, PO Box 185, Castlemaine VIC 3450, or email info@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.

Temporary changes to recycling services

Council is urging everyone to continue to their good recycling habits while its waste contractor Veolia Environmental Services has suspended the processing of recyclables, due to market forces associated with the recent bushfires.

Household bin collection will continue as usual. However, it means that items collected fortnightly in recycling bins will be directed to landfill in the short-term. Residents are encouraged to compact recyclables and wait until your
recycling bin is full before putting it out.

You can also take sorted recyclables such as paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, and steel and aluminium materials like tins, cans and aerosols to transfer stations in Castlemaine and Maldon for recycling for free.

Council is committed to responsible waste management and will continue to work with Veolia to investigate alternatives within the terms of its contract. For more information contact Council on 5471 1700 or visit www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/wastemanagement.
