Expression of Interest – Photography Services Contract M1497-2020

Council is seeking an expression of interest (EOI) from local photographers based within our region to form a pool of photographers we can use on a casual basis to showcase the best of Mount Alexander Shire. EOI documentation including key selection criteria can be downloaded from the Tenders and quotations section of Council’s website.

Submissions must be received by 2.00pm on Tuesday 3 March.

Local art in historic Market Building

There are just a few weeks to see the Market Art Summer Exhibition in Castlemaine’s historic Market Building in Mostyn Street. The exhibition showcases works from more than 100 local artists including paintings, photography, sculptural pieces, prints, glassworks, jewellery and more. Drop in for a look or to add a local piece to your collection. The free exhibition runs until Sunday 1 March and is open every day from 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Play space upgrade

Young children can look forward to more play equipment at Morrissey Reserve in Castlemaine. Works are underway this week to upgrade the play space. New features include a maze panel, shop counter, spider web climber, rock wall, rocker, monkey bars and swings. The play space will be temporarily closed until Monday 17 February while the works are underway. The play space renewal is funded by Council.

Apply for Land Management Rate

Eligible farmers and landholders have until Friday 14 February to apply for the Land Management Rate (LMR). The LMR offers a 20 per cent reduction off the general property rate for undertaking environmental management activities. Conditions apply. Maldon Design Guidelines

Council is seeking feedback on the draft Maldon Design Guidelines which aim to guide design and development that is sensitive to preserving the historical significance of Maldon. The draft guidelines are currently on public exhibition. To find out more come to a drop-in information session from 4.00pm to 7.30pm on Thursday 20 February or Wednesday 18 March at Maldon Community Centre on Francis Street. Road and infrastructure projects

• North Harcourt Road roadworks – starts in mid-February to improve access from Harcourt to Sedgewick and Bendigo. The upgrade will take around three months. The Calder Freeway is an alternative route for commuters travelling between Harcourt and Bendigo.
• Bendigo – Sutton Grange Road upgrade – is underway and expected to be completed by April. There will be traffic delays during the upgrade.
• New footpath along Forest, Bowden and Ray streets in Castlemaine – starts in mid-February and is expected to be completed by the end of May.
Timeframes are dependent on the weather. Property access will be maintained for each of the projects. Please follow traffic management directions. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Temporary changes to recycling services

Veolia Environmental Services have advised Council recycling processing will recommence on Monday 17 February. Veolia temporarily suspended the processing of recycling in late January due to market forces associated with the recent bushfires. In the meantime you can take sorted recyclables such as paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, and steel and aluminium materials like tins, cans and aerosols to transfer stations in Castlemaine and Maldon for recycling for free. Satisfaction survey starts soon

Households are encouraged to participate in the 2020 Community Satisfaction Survey to assess the performance of Council. The annual state-wide telephone survey will begin in mid-February. It will be carried out by independent market research agency National Field Surveys across a random representative sample of at least 400 residents. If you receive a call please take the time to provide your feedback. It will be used to help identify areas for improvement in the programs and services we deliver. Council grants close soon

If you’re planning a local event or project make sure you apply for round two of our Events and Community Grants. The grants provide financial support to local organisations and groups for events, projects and activities. Applications will close at 4.00pm on Tuesday 18 February. Find more information at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/Grants. Please note the event grants are intended for events to be held from July to December 2020.

Share a cuppa with a cop

The next round of Coffee With A Cop is underway. Local police officers will buy you a coffee while you have a chat about what you want from them and how you think it can be achieved. Head along to Saint Florian Café in Templeton Street, Castlemaine from 10.30am to 11.00am on Friday 21 February.
