Calling young budding filmmakers!

Entries are now open for the first COscars Youth Film Festival hosted by Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Youth Advisory Group and FReeZA Committee as a part of the 2020 Victorian Youth Week Celebrations.

The COscars (Castlemaine Oscars) will feature a short film competition with entries open in two categories: Snapshot (runtime less than or equal to one minute) and Short Film (runtime between one and five minutes).

“The films could be action packed, dramatic, stop motion, comedy or anything in between,” said Youth Advisory Group member Ellie Fincham.

“This is such a great opportunity for young people in the community to show off their creativity,” said Ms Fincham.

The competition is open to all young people aged 12 to 25 years from Central Victoria. Category winners will take home $150.

Submissions are due by midnight on Wednesday 18 March.

Winning films and a selection of entries will be screened at the COscars Youth Film Festival held on Friday 27 March at the Camp Reserve Oval, Castlemaine.

The judging panel will place higher value on originality, creativity and storytelling than on production quality or effects.

Competition entry forms and guidelines are available from Council’s youth website at www.mountalexandershireyouth.com.au, Castlemaine Library and Castlemaine Secondary College reception.

You can also have a chat with Council’s Youth Development Unit on 5471 1700 or email youth@mountalexander.vic.gov.au.

The COscars is an initiative of Council and is funded by the Victorian Government’s Youth Week Grant.
