Have a say on the revitalisation of Norwood Hill Recreation Reserve in Castlemaine.

Tuesday 14 April 2020

Mount Alexander Shire Council invites community members to have a say on the revitalisation of Norwood Hill Recreation Reserve in Castlemaine.

The reserve is located on Maclise Street in Castlemaine, about 1.5kms from the centre of town. It has a well-used playground, as well as a cricket practice net, fenced courts, a barbecue, picnic setting and public toilets.

“Norwood Hill Recreation Reserve is looking a bit tired, and although safe, some of the play equipment is at the end of its useful life,” said Cath Olive, Manager Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“We have funds allocated in this year’s budget to revitalise the reserve and we want to hear from the community how best to do this,” said Ms Olive.

“As part of the first stage of consultation we want to understand how community members use the reserve. We want to know their favourite features and ideas for improvements such as play equipment, amenity and landscaping,” she said.

Ms Olive acknowledged the team has had to adapt the community consultation process to reduce the spread of coronavirus COVID-19.

“We would usually invite the community down to the reserve and have a chat with our Active Communities Team, but obviously we need to comply with the restrictions on non-essential gatherings and social distancing requirements,” she said.

“There is an online survey for people to fill out and provide us with their feedback or ideas. If you would rather speak to our Active Communities Team please call them on 5471 1700.”

Children are encouraged to send through drawings or ideas of their vision for the space.

“Your feedback and ideas will help us to begin the design process. We will get back to the community in coming months to let them know what we heard,” said Ms Olive.

The survey is available on the Have your say page on Council’s website at www.mountalexander.vic.gov.au/HaveYourSay. It is open until Friday 15 May.
