Local businesses interested in promoting themselves to locals and visitors are encouraged to be part of the updated Castlemaine, Maldon & Surrounds Official Visitor Guide.

The vibrant A5 publication is produced every two years and highlights key destinations, experiences, and local businesses to hundreds of thousands of visitors.

Businesses can place their advertisement in the official visitor guide under key categories, which include arts and culture, eat and drink, history and heritage, shopping, outdoor and nature, events or accommodation.

“This is a great tool that enables businesses to put themselves directly in front of visitors to our shire”, said Sharna Crosbie, Tourism Marketing and Development Officer, Mount Alexander Shire Council.

“We know that due to travel restrictions more people than ever are holidaying within the state.

“We’re welcoming more first time visitors to the Shire due to our close proximity to Melbourne and wide range of interesting things to see and do here, and the visitor guide can entice visitors to do more while they’re here and come again.”

The official visitor guide is available as a print booklet and distributed to key Visitor Information Centres across Victoria and Australia.

“More than 130,000 people come to our Visitor Information Centres at Castlemaine and Maldon each year, and this is the free guide we recommend,” she said.

“The guide is available online, and also in hardcopy format at key locations such as the Castlemaine Railway Station, Library and Civic Centre, along with many local businesses in the shire.”

Local businesses who would like to advertise in the updated Castlemaine, Maldon and Surrounds Official Visitor Guide are eligible for a $100 discount on the cost of their advertisement if they are an existing, or new member of Council’s Tourism Partnerships Program.

The program offers a number of benefits for members, including:

• A comprehensive business listing on our tourism website: www.maldoncastlemaine.com.au (content and 10 images).
• Promotion through our social media channels and advertising.
• Public relations opportunities and media famils.
• Be part of a strong tourism cohort in the Shire with collaboration and networking. opportunities.

“As part of our COVID recovery support for tourism businesses, we’ve waived our membership fees for the Tourism Partnerships Program”, said Ms Crosbie.

“We’re working in partnership with the local business community to support all businesses to get back on their feet, and we’re hoping that free membership to the program is one way we can alleviate some of the pressure.”
