This year we will champion the businesses and organisation’s in the Shire that have demonstrated outstanding attributes in the below categories. 

The categories have been re-imagined this year to recognise important attributes displayed in our business community. 

Finalists and winners will be chosen by an independent judging panel, who will also choose an overall Business of the Year award winner.

The categories for the 2023 awards are:

Business of the Year

The business of the year award is chosen by the judging panel from the winners of the other categories.

It will be awarded to the business that best demonstrates outstanding leadership and has contributed great value to the Mount Alexander Shire community.

*All businesses who enter in any of the award categories will be in the running to win this award, therefore this award cannot be entered specifically by a business.

Community Focused

This award focuses specifically on businesses that actively contribute to the Mount Alexander Shire community. It recognises businesses that go above and beyond in supporting local initiatives, fostering community development projects, creating job and mentoring opportunities, and enriching the overall quality of life of the community.

Creative Marketing

Clever, fun and impactful - This award recognises exceptional brand and marketing campaigns by businesses in the Mount Alexander Shire. It highlights the creative strategies developed to establish a creative brand presence, engage their target audience, and drive business growth. This award focuses on promoting the regional identity and showcasing the marketing excellence achieved by businesses within the shire. 

People’s Choice Award

This award will give the public a chance to vote for the business they think demonstrates excellence in customer service and reflects the community's appreciation and recognition of a business that goes above and beyond to please their customers.

Public online voting opens from Friday 22 September until Monday 9 October 2023.

Young Achiever

Awarded to a young person who is leading the way in their field, open to anyone aged under 35. The recipient should be seen as a role model for other young professionals, inspiring them to excel in their careers.

Diverse and Inclusive

This award recognises businesses that demonstrate a strong commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion within their organisations. It celebrates businesses that have implemented inclusive practices and programs to create a diverse workforce, ensure equal opportunities, and promote a workplace culture where all employees feel valued, respected, and empowered.

It recognises efforts to address issues of gender equality, racial and ethnic diversity, LGBTQ+ inclusion, disability rights, and other underrepresented groups, both internally and in the wider community.

Environmental Impact

The Environmental Award acknowledges companies that prioritise sustainable practices, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility. This award recognises organisations that integrate sustainability into their core business strategies and actively contribute to building a more sustainable and resilient community.

Innovative Service or Product

This award recognises and celebrates local businesses that have introduced innovative services or products to the market. It highlights the creativity, originality, and impact of these offerings on the local community, showcasing the entrepreneurial spirit and creativity of local entrepreneurs.

Lifetime Achievement

This will be awarded to a person who is a business leader and had significant impact in the business community. For the inaugural award in this category the winner will be selected by a panel and won’t be open to entries from the public.

New Business

This award recognises newly established businesses that have demonstrated outstanding achievements and growth within a short period of 2 years and under. This award acknowledges the entrepreneurial spirit and accomplishments of local start-ups, considering factors such as business concept, growth potential, innovation, and impact on the local community.
