Australia Day is not just a public holiday. Each year Council hosts a family event for the community to get together to recognise our Australia Day Award winners, welcome our new citizens, acknowledge our history and celebrate what it means to be Australian.

Australia Day 2018 activities

Community event

Council held a community event on Australia Day where we recognised our Australia Day Award recipients and welcomed our newest Australian citizens. The crowd enjoyed a free barbecue lunch and entertainment including live music, a bouncy castle and face painting for kids.

Council worked closely with Upper Loddon Indigenous group Nalderun to plan the Australia Day activities, which included a cleansing ceremony and Survival Day component led by Dja Dja Wurrung Elders.
