The Village Square

The Village Square

Get out. Get excited.

The Village Square is located on the corner of Lyttleton and Frederick Streets. This pop-up public space will allow you to grab a takeaway, relax outside and maybe enjoy a bit of a show on the side.

This pop-up space will be open from March 19 until June, 2021.

Through festival time, we've programmed a delightful smattering of free, incidental live performance activities for your enjoyment - we figure there's nothing like stumbling across a live Cuban band or catching a live radio broadcast in your working lunchtime.

We're very proud to host both Castlemaine State and Fringe Festival projects in the Square, as well as the Festival of Winemaking, Brewing and Distilling on 4 April!

To see what else is going on, pick up a 'Get Lost Here’ map from our Visitor Information Centres through festival time or download a copy here – it’ll point you to some of the accessible and family friendly places where you can grab a bite, relax outside and enjoy a bit of a show on the side.

Road closures - festival time

Road closures: south end Frederick Street to general traffic from 1.30pm on 20, 21, 27 and 28 March; 3 and 4 April and from 5.30pm on 19 and 26 March; 2 April. Local business access to loading bay only from Lyttleton St. We're providing further information direct to affected businesses, but if you don't receive this or need further information, please contact us on 5417 1877.

Outdoor dining and entertainment

Council has been working in partnership with our creative community to deliver a range of free, outdoor pop-up spaces and experiences to help us all gather safely through festival time and beyond.

The State Government provided funding to Council to assist us in expanding outdoor dining and entertainment options and we are encouraging our local residents in particular to reconnect with our streets, as we bring our creative best to them. Take your time walking or cycling through our towns and discover something new.
