Tactile ground surface indicators

Council is installing tactile ground surface indicators in 2022/23 at two locations in Castlemaine:

  • Intersection of Hargraves Street and Mostyn Street
  • Access to Buda Historic Home and Garden at 42 Hunter Street

Project aim

  • Replace non-compliant tactile indicators at each corner and median of the Mostyn Street/Hargaves Street intersection with compliant tactile indicators.
  • Install new tactile indicators at the top and bottom landings of the stairs at 42 Hunter Street, including improvements to drainage.

Project outcomes

The project will provide white tactile indicators in accordance with accessibility standards.
The indicators will warn people who are vision impaired of impending hazards, such as the road or stairs.

Where are we now?

A contractor has been engaged to undertake the project.

What happens next?

The tactile indicators will be installed in June 2023.
Alternative pedestrian access will be provided as necessary during the construction period.
